My Guided Tour of the Las Vegas Hotel MGM
I recall my last visit to Las Vegas. I stayed at the Las Vegas hotel MGM and I mean tell you, it was grand indeed. I’ve never, ever been in a building that was so big. It truly is a city within a city. Of course like all Las Vegas hotel casinos you must walk through the casino in order to get to your hotel room. They’re all designed this way and for obvious reasons… they want you playing their games of chance.
I had to laugh though, I remember hearing a loud lion’s roar while I was in the casino, but the funny thing about it is that I was standing next to the lions enclosure when I heard it. I glanced over to see what the lion was so bent out of shape about and I noticed that he was sound asleep. Yes, they pipe in lion’s roars over the loudspeakers… kind of cheesy I thought. But then again, that’s what Vegas is all about isn’t it?
Of course I’m sure you realize that MGM is short for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer which is the parent company of the MGM Mirage hotel/casino empire. And Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer of course is a company that produces movies. The lion is their signature trademark that roars at the beginning of every movie that they produce.
One of my favorite parts of the MGM Las Vegas hotel was the pool. It is actually several pools that stretch across many acres. Some pools are designed especially for kids while others are for adults. Many of the pools feature private cabanas that can be rented out for the day. There is poolside service where you can get whatever food and drinks that you like. And you can even take in a relaxing massage if that’s what you are up for.
They even have a very relaxing river that flows through the property and weaves in and out of the various swimming pools. All you have to do is sit on your floaty and enjoy the ride.
The MGM also features top-flight entertainment including concerts and sporting events. When I was staying there they were getting ready for a David Gilmour concert. David Gilmour as I’m sure you know, was one of the members of Pink Floyd. The MGM recently hosted the boxing match between Manny Pacquio and Ricky Hatton.
The rooms are very nice and range in price depending on the amenities that you would like to have. There is of course, valet parking available but you can also park yourself. Just be prepared to walk if you do. It took me 10 minutes just to walk from the parking garage to the hotel entrance. That’s how huge this place is.
The Las Vegas hotel MGM of course has a huge casino that has every game of chance that you could imagine including a sports book. There are literally rows and rows of slot machines that flank table games such as blackjack, craps, roulette and just about any other game you can think of. There are also high roller tables and rooms there as well.
As far as shows go they are currently hosting Cirque du Soleil. They also feature a very popular night spot based on the New York club Studio 54. All and all I enthusiastically recommend the Las Vegas hotel MGM for anyone that wishes for a truly genuine Las Vegas experience.
